The West Wing

Recently, I've been watching The West Wing for my social studies class and I'm going to tell you all of the main characters names and jobs. (For Season 1)

Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen) is the President Of The United States-P.O.T.U.S. He is also an Economist.

Charlie Young (Dule Hill) is the Personal Aide to President Jed Bartlet. He manages anything from waking the President up to reminding Jed to take pills and of Mr. Bartlet's allergy to eggnog. Charlie is required to be by the president's side at all times unless instructed by the President to get anything or anyone. Sometimes called the "body man" Charlie has to keep the president on schedule.

Leo McGarry (John Spencer) is the Chief of Staff for President Jed Bartlet. He is the right-hand man for Mr. Bartlet and does many things, such as overseeing the hiring process and White House staff members. He also acts as a 'gatekeeper' managing what kind of stuff gets access to the President, like people and information. Leo also manages the President's calendar.

Susie Wiles is the current Chief of Staff.

Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford) is a lawyer and Deputy Chief of Staff. He oversees the White House functions, making sure offices work together and find priorities. Josh clarifies what the Chief of Staff (Leo McGarry) has told them to do. Whenever the president wants to do something, it's Josh's job to make it happen. He is a main communicator between President Bartlet, Leo McGarry, and the other senior staff.

Dan Scavino is the current Deputy Chief of Staff.

C. J. Cregg (Allison Janney) is the Press Secretary. She is always talking to the press and delivering messages from the President, such as new policy updates, and what President Bartlet is doing. C. J. manages relationships with news outlets and is the main public voice for the administration. She has regular press briefings about lots of different things, from domestic to international issues. C. J. also advises what all the senior staff should say to the press and how to say it to avoid miscommunications and to get clearer answers for the public.

Karoline Leavitt is the current Press Secretary

Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff) is the Communications Director. He shapes the overall message and delivery for the President. Toby writes all the major speeches for Mr. President and is involved in all the policy discussions.

Steven Cheung is the current Communications Director.

Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe) is the Deputy Communications Director. He works under Toby Ziegler ands does the same thing as Toby but Toby is just slightly above Sam.

Alex Pfeiffer is the current Deputy Communications Director.

C. J., Toby, and Sam are all really important people because they move the message and get people to like the President and what the President is doing and going to do. They turn bills like Giving Money to Farmers to something fancy like, Preservation of Agriculture and Health Codes. They make all these different things like bills, laws, and operations into something people get motivated to move forward, all because of a few word changes.
