I gotta say, Lord of the Flies was not my favorite book, but it was pretty good in the sense that the author used really good symbolism throughout the book. Some of the reasons I didn't like the book that much were just the personalities of some of the kids, how insane some of the kids got, and the old English I didn't understand very well. The people that really annoyed me were Piggy and Jack. Piggy couldn't really stand up for himself; he was just kind of pushy and clingy, which might not annoy other people, but for me, it was terrible. Another thought was, I couldn't believe that Jack got so obsessed with killing pigs, getting meat, just so focused on this one thing, which led to the killing of Simon and Piggy. Honestly, some parts scared me, like when they killed Simon, and when the pig head was talking to Simon... (that part also confused me). The symbolism was pretty good in this one part of the book where Ralph and Piggy are the only sane people left, and they were going to the other tribe to talk some sense into them, but they got stopped, and Roger killed Piggy with a boulder, leading to Jack trying to kill Ralph and set the island on fire. The symbolism is that Piggy represents all sense and reason, and once he dies (or all sense and reason dies), all the boys went crazy and tried to kill Ralph. So yeah, that's my 'critical' review!
