The Lord of The Rings is a sequel to the Hobbit and has some of the same characters such as Bilbo Baggins, Gollum, Gandalf, and Sauron (although he's called something different in the Hobbit) I only watched the movies and they were very entertaining.
Heres a brief summary of Frodo's story: Bilbo Baggins gives Frodo the Ring. Sam and Frodo headout to Rivendell, they run into Merry and Pippin. They meet Aragorn who agrees to lead them to Rivendell. Frodo gets stabbed. They get to Rivendell, and Frodo gets healed. The Hobbits meet a lot more people and Frodo volunteers to destroy the Ring. Two Humans named Aragorn, and Boromir, an elf named Legolas, a dwarf named Gimli, and a wizard named Gandalf, these people create The Fellowship. The Fellowship try to go through Redhorn Gate, its too cold and snowy so they go back. Legolas hears a "fell voice", Gandalf says it's Sarumon's. They follow the Sirannon river and come up to The Doors of Durin, and enter the abandoned Dwarf city. They get attacked by Goblins and a Cave Troll while they're there. Gandalf is believed to be dead after defeating the Barlog. Aragorn leads The Fellowship to Lothlorien. Galadriel resits the Ring and gives Frodo some starlight in a vile. The Fellowship leaves in boats on the Anduin river, followed by Gollum. Boromir dies. Frodo splits from the group with Sam at the Falls of Rauros to go to Mordor. They get lost in Emyn Muil. Gollum says he'll lead Frodo and Sam to Mordor. He takes them through the Dead Marshes to the Morannon. They go on a secret path Gollum knows, and get captured by the Rangers of Gondor lead by Faramir, Boromir's brother. Gollum betrayes Sam and Frodo and gives them to a giant spider namded Shelob. Frodo gets stabbe. Sam thinks he's dead so he takes the Ring. Frodo gets captured by Orcs. Sam saves him from the tower. They climb Mordor and get rid of the Ring.
Just note; this is not everything that happened and I've completly left out the rest of The Fellowships story. Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, Merry, and Pippin deal with a whole lot of things, and are great heros in these movies.
One of my favorite things in this series is how whenever Legolas and Gimli are fighting Orcs they keep count of how many they kill to have a compition between themselves. I also loved all the little funny lines each of them said. "Here is a thing unheard of! An Elf will go underground and a dwarf dare not!"-Gimli "Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?"-Legolas "Don't tell the Elf"-Gimli
One thing I think that could be dialed down a little bit is the fighting between the Humans and the Orcs, it's boring and loud so it gave me a headache to watch.
Otherwise it was a great trilogy and so much fun to watch!
