(I know, I know...math is mean-BUT it doesn't have to be!)

Prime Factorization: is a way to find all the prime numbers in a composite number.

Ex. 24 The underlined numbers are the prime numbers and when

/ \ multiplied should add up to the start number.

12 x 2 = 24 (get it?) (you don't have to do all the blue highlighted stuff, it's just

/ \ to help you understand)

3 x 4 = 12 (starting to catch on???)

/ \

2 x 2 = 4 (i bet you already guessed that though...) ; )

You could also do it this way:

24

/ \

4 6

/ \ / \

2 2 2 3

Math Vocab:

  • Prime Number:

    - a number not divisible by any number greater than 1

  • Composite number

    - a whole number that has more than two factors

  • Factor: - a number that divides another number without ending up with a remainder
